Abstract:

This dataset contains hourly averages of soil temperature and moisture, and net radiation. This basic environmental data supports the other research that is going on at this site.

Methods:

Data at this site are collected using a Campbell CR10X. Soil temperature is being measured at 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 170cm. The temperature probes were made in the lab using type EC95H303W thermistors from Thermometrics, Corp. and EPO-TEK 715 epoxy. The following moisture sensors are used: the Campbell Scientific CS616 sensor. Net Radiation is measured using a REBS Q7.1 Net Radiometer.

Experimental Design:

These sites were established to provide core soil physical (temp. and moisture) data.

Description: Part of a group of collapsed thermokarst features. Part of the APEX project site expansion. Lowland bog with no living trees, collapse scar formation. Daily access during the growing season.
Directions: Side road to a controlled burn adjacent to Bonanza Creek experimental forest
Site History: Site was established by Kim Wickland in 2003, and taken over by APEX in 2008. Site has been fully functional since 2008
Location: Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest- Alaska State Forest located along the Parks Highway; about 10 miles southwest of Fairbanks.
