<title>Experimental Design</title>
<para>APEX Fen uses a full-factorial water table (flooded or raised, lowered or drained, and control treatments, as well as a moisture gradient) by warming manipulation (warmed, unwarmed treatment). Water table treatments were randomly assigned to each plot.  Permanent measurement collars were established within these plots and randomly assigned to a warming treatment.  Thermistors for temperature measurements were permanently installed adjacent to each measurement collar.</para>

<title>Methods</title>
<para>Soil temperature data were recorded hourly from 18 collars located within the water table by warming treatments at APEX Fen using thermistors and Campbell CR10x dataloggers.  The array of thermisters recorded soil temperatures at several depths at all plots: soil surface, -2 cm, and -25 cm.  Some plots had additional thermistors that measured at -5cm, -10 cm and -50 cm depths.  Collars 2, 3, 5 were experimentally warmed using open topped (ITEX) chambers.</para>
