The Bonanza Creek Schoolyard LTER is a subsidiary program within the Bonanza Creek/Caribou-Poker Creeks (abbreviated BNZ) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program, funded by the National Science Foundation. The overall goal is to provide an interface between the scientists and graduate students working on the BNZ LTER and Fairbanks Northstar Borough School District teachers. The National Schoolyard LTER Program is a pilot study being conducted at many of the LTER sites around the country, with the intent of determining the feasibility and desirability of initiating a full program integrating LTER sites with local schools. The program is currently under development (as is this web page), but check back here for updates as the school year progresses.

The goals of the BNZ Schoolyard LTER are threefold:

The Bonanza Creek LTER scientists and North Star Borough School District teachers currently involved in this project are linked on the navigation bar to the left. As the project matures, we hope to involve many LTER principal investigators and graduate students, as well as many more teachers and students from the school district.
