  • GLOBE Seasons and Biomes Project

    High school students from Innoko River School presented their Boreal Forest Study at the GLOBE Learning Expedition in Capetown, South Africa (2008). In total, 189 schools in 20 Countries have participated in the GLOBE Phonology Measurement protocols that were developed here at UAF.

  • Strategies for Ecology Education, Development, and Sustainability (SEEDS) Field Trips

    During the summer of 2008, BNZ staff and scientists coordinated efforts to host two separate week long field trips to the Bonanza Creek LTER. The first hosted a group undergraduate students and their advisors coordinated through the Ecological Society of America (ESA) and the second brought students and faculty from historically black collages coordinated by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

  • Weed Wackers K-6 Educators Guide to Invasive Plants of Alaska

    This program was developed by Katie Villano (BNZ Graduate Student) and Christine Villano (FNSB Teacher) to promote awareness and research involving invasive plant species. It set out with three distinct units of activities: 1) Alaskan teachers and students will become familiarized with invasive and non-native plant species currently in Alaska, 2) Students will conduct meaningful, cutting edge research in experiments adapted from current University of Alaska experiments, and 3) Students will explore the relationships between human society, culture and invasive plants in Alaska.
